COACH

BILLY YANCY

Charles “Billy” Yancy brings professional playing and college coaching experience to his post as Director of Mid-West Coast Football Camps. Six years experience in various coaching positions for competitive professional women’s football, semi-professional men’s football and junior college football teams. A lifetime of involvement in competitive sports, including participation, administration, and promotion. A successful record of accomplishment for securing scholarships to 4-year institutions (97%) for eligible student athletes, recruiting, and developing talent at the high school varsity level. Actively involved in motivational programs, strength & conditioning development and speed & agility training for all positions

Yancy started as a star quarterback in high school at Hamilton High School in Los Angeles . He went on to become a JC Grid-Wire All American and All-Mission Conference QB at Saddleback College (Mission Viejo ) in 1976-1977. From there, Yancy transferred to Fresno State , where he was again named All-American in 1978-1979.

From 1981-1985 he played cornerback in the NFL (L.A. Rams, Detroit Lions), USFL (Oakland Invaders and Pittsburgh Maulers) and Canadian Football League (Calgary Stampeders). In 2000, Yancy served as a defensive backs coach at Fairfax High. He also coached the defensive secondary at LA Pierce in 2004 and 2006, and was Defensive Coordinator at Pasadena City College in 2005. Besides coaching, Yancy served as a Deputy Marshal for Los Angeles County from 1989-1996.

A resident of Tujunga, Yancy is married to wife Chris and has five children in sons Kamaron (23), Kellan (22) and Kieran (11), and daughters Kristyn (27) and Koree (19). Kellan is currently a senior and defensive back at the University of Houston, and Kamaron will be entering Cal Berkeley this fall on a full scholarship, both having been coached by their father at LA Pierce.

Kellan Yancy (Cornerback /Safety)University of Houston

  • Prototype Defensive Back

•    Plays Cornerback and Safety Positions

•    Physical / Aggressive Playing Mentality

•    Experienced in Special Teams Coverage

•    Possesses Explosive Acceleration w/Range & Speed

Kellan will become a premier defensive back and specialist in the professional ranks. He is a defensive leader who is extremely fast and agile. He has exceptional upper body strength and is able to play press man and cover 2 coverages very well.

Kellan is a natural off-technique corner built in the likeness of All-Pro Hall of Fame corner Mike Haynes. Yancy’s tall lean frame allows him to be a distraction to wide receivers and quarterbacks. He is rarely beaten on deep routes; his speed and agility discourages opposing quarterbacks from throwing in his direction at both corner and safety (special situations) positions.

Yancy was an All-League corner as a senior at

Fairfax High School

in 2003 and played in the Shrine Football Classic and in the Cali-Florida Bowl that year.

In the 2004 season, Kellan was recruited by University of Hawaii , University of Nevada at Reno and San Diego State University ; however, he opted to be coached by his dad, Bill Yancy (former NFL and USFL cornerback) at L.A. Pierce College . The young Yancy had an impressive All-Conference freshman season recording 48 tackles, 10 pass breakups and five interceptions along with a fumble recovery.

Immediately after that season, Kellan committed and transferred to the University of Houston . Upon his arrival, a change in the defensive staff – including the Recruiting Coordinator – resulted in a loss of playing time in favor of local Texas talent. Yancy remains motivated and is ready to be part of a team that recognizes that top performers aren’t always among the top draft picks.
